Today’s mission takes us on a trip down this beautiful meandering river called The Ramapo River.
Let’s take a closer look at Oakland and take a snapshot of the period of time between the 1920s and 1980s. During this time, Oakland was a vibrant resort community; with resorts built along the Ramapo River.

This town is a beautiful forested area of mountains and lakes. There are approximately 40 lakes in West Milford and on our mission today, we’re going to fly over 3 of those lakes. Upper Greenwood Lake, Mount Laurel Lake, and Bearfort Lake.

Greenwood lake is a breathtaking natural lake that is approximately 7 miles long and is located on the border of NY and NJ. It is the water source of the Wanaque River. Before it was known as Greenwood lake, it was called “KUAM-PEE-OM” by the “MUN-SEE” native tribe. Who lived there before the Europeans settled during the 18’th century and renamed it Long Pond.
